British Perfumers Established 1870
The story of Penhaligon's begins with its founder, William Penhaligon, a humble Cornish barber who rose to serve at the Royal Court and even trimmed the Shah of Persia’s beard. In 1870, William created his first perfume, Hammam Bouquet, inspired by the Turkish Baths where he was the resident barber. The fragrance was exotic and exciting, causing quite a stir. Mayfair’s bright young things clamoured for more, and more they received, as a slew of fabulous fragrances followed. Today, Penhaligon’s is one of the world’s most esteemed fragrance houses, proudly holding a Royal Warrant (with two more gracing the pages of its history) and continuing to delight the world’s nostrils with a touch of Britishness and some rather dazzling scents.
