The Movement Towards Ingredient Transparency

The Movement Towards Ingredient Transparency

If there's one buzzword that's taken every industry by storm, it's "clean." Clean eating, clean energy, and clean living. If you've spent any time scrolling through social media, browsing your favourite beauty sites, or exploring the most trending brands, you've probably encountered the term "clean beauty." But what does it actually mean? What makes a product "clean"? And does simply labelling something as "clean" automatically make it better for you or the environment?

At Rennaï, we appreciate a good trend, but we're committed to offering something even more valuable: transparency and education. While we're here to advise, inspire, and be your trusted resource for all things self-care, no one knows your body and skin better than you do. Our goal is to equip you with the tools and knowledge to make choices based on your unique needs and values. Here's why we've chosen this approach and believe it represents the future of beauty.

Is "Clean Beauty" Really That Clean?

In recent years, people have become increasingly mindful of what they put in an on their bodies, investing time, energy, and money into self-care and wellness. Naturally, the beauty industry has followed this trend. Today, we have an abundance of choices, particularly with beauty products labelled as "clean," which now account for one-third of the US beauty market. After all, who wouldn't want to use the safest and purest ingredients on their skin and hair?

Here's the catch: "Clean beauty" — essentially shorthand for toxin-free — can mean different things to different brands. Without a universal definition, the term is open to interpretation. This lack of standardization means that some products labelled "clean" might still contain ingredients that don't align with your values, lifestyle, or needs.

“With the lack of regulation and misinformation, this has led to customers feeling confused and skeptical.  At Rennaï, We want to take a more transparent approach by helping to educate our customers by providing a full ingredient list, key ingredients, and a “without” disclosure. We are also building out our Ingredient Glossary that provides a clear description of each ingredient’s purpose.   This allows the customer to make informed decisions about products that address their own specific needs,” said Hana Song, Vice President of Product and Merchandising at Rennaï.

We're not suggesting that "clean beauty" is inherently misleading. What we are saying is that you deserve more than just a label. You deserve to know exactly what's in your beauty products, why those ingredients are there, and how they might affect your body. That's why, at Rennaï, we're passionate about education and transparency. With clear, straightforward information at your fingertips, you're empowered to make the best choices for your skin, hair, and overall well-being.

Your Beauty, your Choice

We've moved beyond the "clean beauty" label to create a system that truly empowers you. Our detailed ingredient glossary, comprehensive product listings, and trusted circle of experts ensure you're fully informed when choosing products that best suit your needs. Whether you're avoiding certain ingredients due to allergies, ethical reasons, or personal preferences, we provide the facts — not just another buzzword.

No matter where you are on your skincare journey, we're dedicated to helping you find the best products for you because we believe beauty routines are personal and sacred. What works wonders for one person might not for another — and that's perfectly fine! Some prefer organic ingredients, while others rely on synthetic, lab-made products for their effectiveness. As we navigate different phases of life, so does our beauty routine.

"It's not a one-size-fits-all, and product efficacy varies from one customer to another.  So many factors affect your skin's health, from genetics, diet, hormones, sleep, environmental, stress, etc. It's so important to understand which ingredients will offer the best results for your skin," explained Song. "A Rennaï, the customer has the option to self-educate by utilizing the Ingredient Glossary or by consulting with a Rennaï Specialist that can utilize technology to analyze your skin and recommend the best products."
